Waves of Debris

 Artists' Statement:
This installation represents the global pollution problem that is occurring in our oceans today.  Through this artwork, we hope to bring awareness to the growing issue and reduce our consumption of single-use plastics; one of the most common types of debris found worldwide throughout our oceans.

Project Overview:
The Long Beach Island School District received funding this year from NOAA's Marine Debris Program and the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve to educate the school and local community about the impact of plastic pollution and litter in our oceans. Using found and recycable plastic materials, students in grades PK-6 worked together to create a collaborative art installation that brings awareness to the issue and the impact of marine debris.
