What is SAIL?

Objectives:

  • To enhance communication and public speaking skills
  • To encourage community involvement and awareness
  • To promote positive peer relationships and teamwork

How can I get involved?
SAIL includes many opportunities for leadership with our third through sixth grade students.

Grades 3 and 4: Students may choose to participate in Community Outreach during the second marking period. This PEP class meets once per week and focuses on building leadership skills and making a positive impact on the various communities of which the students are a part. (classroom, grade level, school, town, etc) Second marking period is a busy time for SAIL as it begins with our holiday food drive and concludes with the Super Bowl Pep Rally!

Grades 5 and 6: Students may apply in during the first marking period of each year to serve on any or all of the many leadership committees that SAIL offers:
  • Super Bowl Pep Rally
  • Read Across America
  • Relay for Life
  • Community Outreach (PEP choice)
  • Art Club (6th only- Application process)
  • Captain's Committee (6th only- Teacher Recommendation and Application Required)

Most Recently: The 22nd Annual Ocean County Peace Summit
The 6th grade LBI SAIL Leaders collaborated with over 175 student leaders from surrounding districts on Thursday, May 30th. The day included communication and ice-breaking activities, exercises in team-building, empathy, and peer-to-peer relationships. Our students took on the challenge of leading some of the activities with Stafford Intermediate's SOS Leaders. They ended the day with plenty of new friends and some finely-tuned leadership skills.

Relay for Life- May 10, 2019

Each May, the LBI School District joins with the American Cancer Society in the fight for a cure. This year our Relay for Life event took place on Friday, May 10th. The students learned about the history of Relay for Life and how the American Cancer Society supports survivors, fighters, and their families. Then, we walked together to show unity and that no one fights alone.

This year, the LBI and EJ schools raised $704.63 to be donated to the American Cancer Society. For more information on Relay for Life or how you can support ACS, click here.

February 2019: Superbowl Pep Rally
The 5th annual Super Bowl Pep Rally was a success! Throughout the week, the students at LBI Grade School showed both team and school spirit by wearing our school colors/spirit wear, maintaining positive relationships across teams, and focusing on what is most important: giving back to the surrounding community.  By the end of the day Friday, the students had collected a total of 617 items.  This is an incredible accomplishment for our small district and is a true demonstration of the positive impact our school family can have on others.

Special thanks to the Helping Hands members who sorted, boxed, and sealed all the donations to help them prepare for transit.
